THE
DIVORCE FORUM THE DIVORCE FORUM is the world's first seminar series that offers you the opportunity to heal the mind, body and spirit and to enhance all areas of well-being as you move through the process of divorce. How
are you feeling? Are you healing? *Do you hate or fear the opposite sex; not just your ex? *Have you resigned yourself to living alone for the rest of your life? *Do you avoid dating by making yourself unavailable, unattractive or indifferent? *Have your children, the "Children of Divorce", found satisfaction in their lives and in their relationships? During my own second divorce in 1999, I utilized psychotherapy, holistic and naturopathic healing, meditation, exercise and humor therapy in order to heal myself. The 1st discovery I made was that when I was laughing, I stopped crying. In fact, it was impossible to cry when I was laughing! The 2nd discovery I made was that I needed to move through the full range of emotions and not get stuck in any one of them. I noticed that laughter speeded my healing since it actually alters our brain chemistry through the production of endorphins. Laughter opened a new doorway so that I no longer was trapped in the negative emotional state of the divorce all the time. And it was a doorway I could access whenever I needed, even when I was alone. So that whenever I felt trapped by the endless internal conversation of blaming myself or my spouse, I could find the doorway and move through laughter into peace. Instead of exhausting myself with the closed circuit of pain; laughter is a way out. Endorphins are morphine-like substances that are part of the bodies natural built-in pain control system. Certain endorphins are as much as 500 times more powerful than morphine. Within the first few months after my separation, I found that I was beginning to develop objectivity and distance through laughter and it brought me the first moments of peace. So instead of thinking of laughter as an optional component, I realized that it was central to my healing. Even with my "emergency divorce"; DIVORCE 911, I was determined not to let my divorce kill me. I decided that since I had escaped with my life, I had to reclaim it and if at all possible, to improve it and enhance it, too. Since endorphins have been discovered as the cause for runner's high and for strengthening the immune system I knew that they were just what I needed and in a mega dose. In 1964 Norman Cousins was very ill and discovered that deep belly laughs for 10 minutes allowed him 2 hours of sleep without pain-killers. So he ran all the Marx Brothers comedies and "Candid Camera" again and again in his hospital room. In 1964, the cause of this healing was not understood. But in the 1970's endorphins were discovered. They are the brain's natural opiates. The Homes Schedule of Stressful Events puts divorce 2nd, second only to the death of a spouse. During the
first year after my separation, I watched as much comedy as I could -
and I didn't realize how quickly I was healing until I began to pay attention
to some of the DIVORCE VETERANS I met who had been divorced for decades
yet who were still suffering. But as I continued to work on myself with
my professional support team I noticed that situations and people who
had been overwhelming to me were suddenly resized so that I could deal
with them, talk to them and resolve them. Humor, psychotherapy, holistic
healing and all the expertise I welcomed had become my parachute. Those of us who have been divorced know there are many ways to work through our emotions. We can be with it; we can laugh at it; we can move through it. As our Speaker's Bureau grows with each year and with each Divorce Forum session, we will add specialists in new fields to provide specific areas of support. With professional support, humor and perseverance, your future may be far better and more healthy and exciting than the past you left behind! So move through your feelings, and visit The Divorce Forum whenever the process of your divorce feels painful. By using our Message Forum, you can save your own life and help others with their own problems and pain. We invite you to register and participate in our Message Forum, our Online Webinars and our Divorce Forum Seminar series and recover from your own "Connubial Blitz"
It is out of my own experience of divorce that I was given the impetus to create The Divorce Forum as a place for people to heal. Since I did not have a place to go to heal myself, I had to create one. And since my divorce was made less traumatic by the love and support of others, I am committed to offering this myself. Sometimes the greatest creations ever made come from what isn't there. For example, Edison created the light bulb because electric lighting did not exist. Bell created the telephone because voice communication over distance did not exist. I was led to create The Divorce Forum because there was no safe environment for a group to focus on healing from the pain of divorce. Through the months following my separation I asked, "Why? What purpose this divorce?" and the voice inside gave me two radical ideas: "That I was on a rocket breaking free from my orbit." And that " These are labor pains-these deep tears must first be shed. You need the pain and then the peace." As I couldn't have realized in 1999, I was giving birth to a new me. In the two years since that experience, this has proven to be true. I have discovered that the main purpose of my life is to serve the lives of other divorced people as we heal ourselves with dignity and integrity. Divorce
is one of the most challenging experiences we can face and that has caused
me to design a solution to assist those in the same situation that I have
been in. This is why The Divorce Forum was created. I am an example
of the courage it took for me to be where I am now; it is the same courage
being given to you for you are the hero as you heal yourself from your
divorce.
